review of Lashings Beach Inn hotel in Antigua. Antigua is a Caribbean island with a hotel called Lashings Beach Inn. Lashings Beach Inn is the hotel I stayed at in Antigua. Antigua has many hotels. Lashings Beach Inn is just one of those in Antigua.Lashings was formerly known as Sandhaven. It took on new life with a change of management and has become one of Antigua's most popular weekend night spots due to low prices and friendly service. Part owned by West Indies cricketers there's often cricket on the beach and definitely a party on Friday and Saturday. Menu is VERY varied and good value.

They bill themselves as " the best value for your money in Antigua, and probably in the whole of the Caribbean!" and with prices starting at around $40 a night they are probably right. There are 16 rooms from large family sized rooms to comfortable double rooms, all with their own bathrooms. Accommodation is clean but pretty basic. Value for money is the key to this experience. Ground floor rooms open straight onto the beach, just a few steps from the Caribbean Sea! Second floor rooms have balconies.

The hotel is on 120 volt system. Bring your own hair dryer and any other personal appliances and toiletries. No televisions or phones in the rooms but there is one in the main outdoor reception area. A large screen satellite t.v. is in the indoor dining room. A safe is available for your valuables, at reception.

The beach bar is a favorite hang out for locals at sunset because (i) the sunsets are great there & (ii) they have the cheapest happy hour drinks of any hotel on the island. For the truly budget conscious ask about their bar-side beach hut (3 small rooms with self-contained bathrooms).

The one negative here is the close proximity to a salt pond that can be a bit smelly on occasions.

THIS is their official website.

Runaway Bay is a beautiful beach on the lee of the island which is wide and powdery at the south end where Lashings is. The sea is usually quite calm.

REVIEWS:

Gail Edwards writes:

This hotel has a lingering reputation as a party place. We stayed there 3 nights. On arrival the staff was very helpful along with an offer of a free rum punch. The rooms, while classified as budget are roomy, clean, have new matresses, great water pressure and, on the main floor, open right onto the beach. The rates were substantially cheaper if one walked off the street than booking through your agent ($45US vs $75/night- a lot of hotels are doing the same thing given the slowdown in tourism). Runaway Bay is one over from Dickenson (Sandals/ Antigua Village)so is virtually deserted except for guests and a few locals. Want more crowds-5 min walk. Sat night is still party night with LOUD music. Sun & Mon night were quiet, the food was good and the stars were brilliant. Recommended - miss Sat night.
