 There
are a wide variety of tours available in Antigua and
Barbuda. Each hotel has a tour desk offering excursions by
their favored tour operators. Some will only feature tours
they operate themselves or those of close associates so here
we highlight a FEW favorites.
- Taxi tours...
- The most popular is to Nelson's Dockyard
and Shirley Heights. This is a good choice for
Sundays as you party with a steel band and watch the
sun set over Montserrat's volcano.
- A trip through fig tree drive, Antigua's
mini rain forest leads to glorious view over Cades
reef and a tour of some spectacular beaches
- AntiguaPaddles
eco kayaking is VERY well received with active tourists.
It incorporates a visit to bird breading grounds and
snorkeling the vast reef at Seatons in the CLEAR waters
of the Atlantic. $50 per person for a half day. They pick
up from hotels. - tel 463 1944
- A PRIVATE
cruise for up to 6 people with Captain
John on
Sentio
is also highly recommended. If you can get 6 people
together it costs no more than the party boats and are
designed for occasional sailors and landlubbers complete
with lunch and drinks and everything you need for a great
day on the water. They specialize in taking the guest
snorkeling and offer lessons to first timers.
- Island
Arts UNIQUE
Star Wars
gatherings with the
YodaGuy are a MUST
for fans of the classic trilogy. It's the only place IN
THE WORLD where you can get 2 hours of drinks and
insights with a Star Wars creature builder tel 461 6324 -
email YodaGuy@IslandAtsAntigua.com
- Eli's AdventureAntigua eco tour
is also highly rated and quite different to the
AntiguaPaddles experience. This extremely knowledgeable
Olympic windsurfer shares his insights and favorite spots
for about $95 per person. Its a FULL DAY and gets rave
reviews - tel 727 3261
- Round the island catamaran
tours like Kokomo Cat
and Wadadli Cats are a
fabulous way to see the island and party at the same
time. The circumnavigation of Antigua is very popular
- Jolly Roger Pirate
Cruises - the original booze cruise. These guys
have partying down to an art form but watch out for the
151š proof rum punch!
- Don't overlook a day shopping in St Johns (see
HeritageQuay.com
and
RedcliffeQuay.com)
- Horseback riding can be
arranged at most hotels for about $35 each
- Golf is available at
Jolly Harbour
Golf Club, (last time we checked it was $30 for 18 holes
plus $15 for the cart), or Cedar Valley Golf Course (
also 18 holes)
- A day trip to Barbuda
can be arranged at any hotel and is like stepping into an
unspoiled desert island. You can have a 7 mile stretch of
beach to yourself or visit the bird sanctuary. Well worth
a visit.
- Helicopter tours to
Montserrat's volcano are popular and
unforgettable. See "services" at
JollyHarbourWI.com
for info.
